Calendar Data Missing/WindowPrograms Compatibility

Please can someone help me urgently!
Since a "friend" did a disk fragmentation on my computer all my entries within my calendar have disappeared.  Until this time I had successfully been using the wincal.exe calendar from Vista within Windows 7.  I have been searching the web and seen various
forums about entries suddenly missing and making changes in the regedit.exe but none of these have worked.  My last trial was running a troubleshooting exercise within the calendar help program and it came up with wincal as being an incompatiable application.
Unfortunately I am far from a computer whizz and hope that someone can help me and explain what the problem may be and take me through this in fairly simple terms.
I am really desparate to get this sorted as I don't know when anyone's birthdays are, when and where I am going now!!!
